This innovative power plant will deliver not just one, but two sources of energy in Texas – electricity and more American oil – while applying environmentally responsible water conservation and advanced electric generating technology.
Trailblazer Energy Center Overview
This new clean coal electricity generation plant would be located near Sweetwater, Texas. The state-of-the-art plant would generate approximately 765 megawatts (MW) gross and 600 MW net, using the best and latest supercritical, pulverized coal technology.
Among the first conventional coal plants to integrate commercial-scale carbon capture technology, Trailblazer would be designed to capture 85 to 90% of the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from the coal plant. The CO2 would be utilized for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) in Permian Basin oilfields. As designed, the plant would produce abundant, inexpensive American energy ith significantly reduced emission releases.
Innovative
Trailblazer would produce enough electricity to meet the needs of approximately 600,000 Texas homes around-the-clock.
The captured CO2 would then be used to recover about 10 million barrels of oil annually from West Texas.
Clean
The Trailblazer Energy Center emissions would meet or be lower than all Texas and Federal environmental standards. Additionally, it would capture 85-90% of the CO2 produced. The CO2 would be captured, dehydrated, compressed and delivered via pipeline to West Texas for EOR projects and ultimate geologic storage.
Trailblazer plans to use an efficient supercritical steam cycle for greater fuel efficiency.
Tenaska’s Trailblazer Energy Center is targeted to meet environmental standards for sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and mercury removal outlined by Texas’ “Advanced Clean Energy Project” legislation passed in 2007.
