Praxair

Praxair, Inc. is developing a patented “Oxy-coal” process, very similar to IGCC. Relying on the company’s extensive experience with commercial gases, Oxy-coal technology uses pure oxygen instead of air in the coal combustion process. This creates a purer stream of carbon dioxide, making it much cheaper and easier to capture and store CO2. To learn more about this process, click here.

Ambre Energy

Ambre Energy claims it can recover synthetic crude oil and natural gas from coal using its Hybrid Energy System technology. The process also produces electricity, as well as useful products such as hydrogen, ammonia, and sulfur. To learn more about this technology, click here.

Hydrogen Energy

Hydrogen Energy, a joint venture between BP and Rio Tinto, have plans for two gasification projects which will use hydrogen from fossil fuels to create low-carbon energy. Carbon dioxide will be captured and stored underground. To learn more about this technology, click here.
