In Texas and across the country, our air is becoming progressively cleaner. According to the EPA, not only are pollutants decreasing, the emissions that affect the concentrations of these pollutants are dropping as well. Nationwide, trends show that:
- NO2 – Nitrogen dioxide concentrations currently are at their lowest levels in the past 20 years
- SO2 – During the past 20 years, sulfur dioxide concentrations have been cut by more than 50% and SO2 emissions have been reduced by more than 33
- CO – Carbon monoxide nationally is at the lowest recorded level in the last 20 years
- O3 – Ozone levels nationally are the lowest they have been since 1980
- PM – Particulate matter 2.5 concentrations in 2003 were the lowest since nationwide monitoring began in 1999
