Texas has a rich history in oil and gas exploration. That has served the state well in the pursuit of clean coal projects. In 2005, the U.S. Department of Energy submitted a Request for Proposals for the FutureGen, near-zero emissions clean coal project. Of the 24 Councils of Governments across Texas, nine made full submissions for the project. These submissions included economic feasibility and geologic information for these areas.
